The Exchange Club of Wolcott had another successful fundraising year for 2022-2023. We hope to surpass that for 2023-2024 with the addition of a new fundraising event for the month of May with more on that, later in this article. With the funds we raised in 2022-2023 we were able donate to nonprofits in our community such as the Wolcott Food Pantry, Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance Association, St. Vincent DePaul Society Shelter, Wolcott Special Games and the Wolcott High Excel Club just to name a few. We recently hosted a Valentine’s Day Luncheon for 100 senior citizens at no cost for them to attend at the Wolcott Senior Center.

With the New Year, 2023-2024, we have already begun the task of planning and meeting for our scheduled events. The first event coming up is Believe in the Blue, on April 1st. This event focuses on the awareness of Child Abuse and Prevention. It will be held on the Wolcott Town green at 6:00 PM, rain or shine. It is open to the public, civic organizations, businesses and students to attend. Later, on April 22nd, we will be hosting our annual Public Service Awards where we recognize and honor our Police Officer, Firefighter, EMT and Teacher of the Year. We will also be awarding our Book of Golden Deeds Award. This event is being held at the Aqua Turf Club and is open to the public as well.

Our next event is brand new for our club. Pocketbook Bingo ! This event will be held on May 23rd at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Chase Parkway in Waterbury. Instead of cash prizes, designer pocketbooks are the prizes. The committee members organizing this event are planning a fun filled time for ladies who would love to be in possession of these designer handbags for a fraction of the cost. Also during the month of May we will be awarding at least four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside in Wolcott. Applications are available at Wolcott High School’s Guidance Office, Wolcott Library and online at the Exchange Club of Wolcott website. As with every Memorial Day Parade, the Exchange Club of Wolcott will be participating once again, with our GIVE A KID A FLAG project which hands out American flags along the parade route. This year’s parade is on May 27th, stepping off at St. Pius X Church en route to Woodtick Recreation field and the waters’ edge on Nichols Road.

During the month of June, we will be holding our annual Kelly Possidento Memorial Golf Tournament on June 17th at the Chippanee Country Club in Bristol, CT. The golf committee is already planning for this event, and once again will make it one of the most anticipated golf events among golf tournaments in the area. The weather forecasters are predicting a sun filled day for this event, as always! During the months of July and August, we generally take a break with our events and nothing is generally scheduled. In September we get back in the swing of things and more information about our additional events will be listed in a future article. As always, if anyone has any interest in the Exchange Club or wants to learn more about us and our events, please contact club president Roger Picard at, [email protected] or go to our website. We are always looking for new members to join us in making our community a better place to live. We meet every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month with dinner meetings September thru June. We believe in core values, Family, Community and Country and we promote patriotism and Americanism.

“Unity For Service”
